For decades, homeowners have enjoyed the benefits of having a Whirlpool or Jacuzzi tub. Current trends, however, show that freestanding soaking tubs are the top choice among designers and clients when renovating a Master Suite.
Joyce Kenny of Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery, said that many homeowners do not use the tub in the Master Bath, making the soaking tub is “a very popular showpiece.” Clients prefer over-sized showers with benches and multiple body sprays; today’s custom shower enclosures can have surround sound, LED lighting and tile that changes color when heated.
According to Ms. Kenny, soaking tubs used to come with the added expense of freestanding faucets, but now they are designed to use the same deck mounted faucets used with traditional bathtubs. Air jets (for hydrotherapy) or re-circulating pump/heaters (for maintaining water temperature while in use) are optional, giving homeowners the benefits of a jacuzzi with the look of the soaking tub.
